Hosting Definitions Anonymous FTP - File Transfer
Protocol is a method of sending and receiving files on the Internet
without a unique ID and password. FTP may be used to upload HTML
files to your Web host from your own computer.
Autoresponders - Autoresponders is a feature that sends an
automated reply to incoming mail. For example, an autoresponder can

When incoming mail is sent to a person who is out of the office, an
autoresponder can also trigger a response from the unavailable
party.
CGI - Common Gateway Interface is a protocol that allows a
Web server to pass a Web user's request to an application program.
Data can then be forwarded back to the user. For example, if a user
completes a form on a Web site and sends it in, it needs to be
processed by an application program. The Web server passes the form
information to an application program that processes the data. In
many cases, a confirming message is sent to the end user.

forwarding options, enable/disable anonymous FTP access, change your

DNS - Domain Name System is a system of servers located
throughout the Internet that has been set up to handle Internet

Data Transfer - Data transfer is the amount of digital data
that is moved from one place to another in a given time. Outbound
traffic from a Web site, with the exception of e-mail, is considered
to be data transfer. For example, as each Web page, image, MIDI
file, etc. is loaded, it generates data transfer.
Disk Storage Space - Disk storage space reflects the amount
of server disk storage allocated to your account. The space is used
to store HTML files, graphics, audio clips, POP mail messages, PDFs,
and other files incorporated on your Web site.
Encryption - Encryption is the conversion of data in a form

used to protect credit card information from third parties during
online purchases.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions are a gathering of answers
to common questions about a particular subject area.

Get) Web page editor by Microsoft to create and maintain your Web

Java - Java is a programming language designed for the
Internet environment. It can be used to create a complete
application to run on a single computer or distributed among servers

Mail Forwarding - Mail Forwarding allows you to receive mail
addressed to your domain to a real e-mail address. For example,
messages forwarded to webmaster@yourdomain.com may be forwarded to
you@yourdomain.com. You may want to establish several POP e-mail
accounts such as sales@yourdomain.com or support@yourdomain.com from
your Web site. Messages received from these e-mail addresses can be
forwarded to a real e-mail address designated by you.
MIME - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions is the standard

configurable POP accounts. Additional POP accounts can be assigned
unique passwords to ensure privacy.
SSL - Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol that enables
encrypted communications across the Internet. SSL creates a secure
environment so that data such as credit card information can be
collected from end users and provide privacy, authentication and
message integrity.
